Women’s Participation in Sustaining Peace and the Advancement of SDG16: Practices from Latin America

The summary report provides an overview of the panel discussion on ‘Women’s Participation in Sustaining Peace and the Advancement of Goal16: Practices from Latin America” held by the Permanent Secretariat of the Community of Democracies, International IDEA and Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy (REDLAD) on the margins of the 49th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (June 2019, Colombia).

The event addressed the role of women in peacebuilding process, outlining best practices from Latin America, and in the overall consolidation of peace, justice, and inclusive societies, in relation to the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. The discussion was carried out as part of the Community’s project on ”Engaging Women in Sustaining Peace”- the final publication of the research will be launched at the upcoming CoD side event, to be held on September 26th in the sideline of UNGA74 in New York.
