Press release – Estonia joins the Community of Democracies Governing Council
At its meeting on December 5 in San Salvador, the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies (CD) accepted Estonia’s formal request to join the Council.
Estonia has contributed to Community of Democracies’ multilateral efforts of supporting democratic processes since 2011 by co-chairing the LEND Network, a global forum for politicians, administration officials and civil society leaders form Moldova, Tunisia and Ukraine. It has also funded CD activities, most recently pre-elections training in Tunisia.
This close cooperation has now been formalized as the country joins the Community of Democracies’ Governing Council, the decision-making body of the Community, as its 27th member state and the 8th from Europe.
For more details, please contact the Communications Officer at the Permanent Secretariat of the Community of Democracies, Mr. Daniel Slomka.
