On March 21, 2023, the Permanent Secretariat of the Community of Democracies hosted a closed-door briefing with Uyghur human rights activist Rushan Abbas who spoke to representatives of CoD Member States on the situation of Uyghurs, raising awareness of gross human rights violations against Uyghurs. The briefing was co-organized with International Republican Institute.
