As the Community of Democracies’ YouthLeads, we extend our congratulations to the democratically elected government, and its President Bernardo Arévalo and Vice President Karin Herrera, on their inauguration in Guatemala. This occasion marks a historic transfer of power and affirms the strength and resilience of Guatemala’s democratic institutions.

In the face of challenges and repeated attacks on democratic values and the electoral process, it was the unwavering commitment of the Guatemalan people, especially its youth, that stood in defense of democracy, its fundamental rights and freedoms. The active participation and advocacy of the youth in Guatemala have played a key role in upholding the principles of democratic governance, the results of a free and fair election, and ensuring the integrity of this transition.

As we celebrate this triumph for Guatemala, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the voice and agency of youth in every corner of the globe as they lead the change in building more democratic, inclusive, and prosperous societies.
