Community of Democracies Highlights the Need for a Renewed Democratic Narrative at Forum 2000

October 14, 2025

The Community of Democracies (CoD) was honored to participate in the Forum 2000 Conference 2025, one of the world’s leading gatherings of policymakers, scholars, civil society representatives, and democracy advocates. This year’s conference focused on the future of democracy, addressing the challenges of disinformation, geopolitical instability, and declining public trust in democratic institutions.

Secretary General Mantas Adomėnas represented the CoD in several high-level discussions, including bilateral meetings with international partners, a CoD-led panel on the Democratic Narrative Agenda, and participation in the plenary session of the International Coalition for Democratic Renewal (ICDR).

The CoD-led panel, facilitated by Professor Maiko Ichihara of Waseda University, explored how to renew democratic narratives in the 21st century. Participants discussed ways to revitalize public trust, strengthen civic resilience, and promote values of openness, inclusion, and accountability amid growing global polarization.

During the ICDR plenary session, Secretary General Adomėnas emphasized that the future of democracy depends not only on defending its principles but also on renewing its meaning for new generations.

“The horizon of universal aspiration for democracy must be translated into a positive, ambitious vision, one that inspires imagination, courage, and belief in the future,” said Secretary General Mantas Adomėnas.

The CoD delegation also held a series of bilateral meetings with government officials, including representatives from the Dominican Republic, to discuss ongoing and future cooperation on democratic resilience, youth engagement, and support for democracies in transition.

It was also an honor for the Secretary General to speak during the first public appearance of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate María Corina Machado, whose courage and leadership embody the enduring spirit of democracy.

The Community of Democracies expresses its appreciation to the Forum 2000 Foundation for convening this vital platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among those committed to advancing democratic values and human rights worldwide.
