This week, Secretary General Maria Leissner and the Permanent Secretariat of the Community of Democracies will meet with representatives of the US government as well as the ISC and attend a series of meetings aimed to set priorities, goals and an agenda for the next two years of activities at the CD. The events are taking place during the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York City, NY.

This marks the first time that the Governing Council of the CD meets since the US assumed Presidency in July at the 2015 Ministerial Conference in El Salvador. The working plan for the day includes the role and operating principles of the ISC, enforcing standards of the Warsaw Declaration, representation of the CD Working Groups and developing a strategy for new democracies.

The productive meetings will determine next steps for the Community as well as ways of including Civil Society Pillar representation in Governing Council member states.
