On November 22nd, 2018, the Community of Democracies held a discussion panel at the Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy on: ”New Tools of Civic and Public Responsibility”
”The right of every person to freedom of opinion & expression including to exchange and receive ideas and information through any media, regardless of frontiers is one of the principles of the Community’s Warsaw Declaration” – said Secretary General Thomas E. Garrett in his opening remarks. He also added that ‘‘ some of the Community’s member states have become leaders in promotion and strengthening of good governance and ICT as tools for empowerment, including free access to information and increasing citizens”.
The panel discussion served as an opportunity to foster a dialogue on the challenges new technologies offer to modern democracies, and how these technologies can be employed to promote political participation, increase democratic resilience, and strengthen civic oversight.
