January 1, 2026

In 2026, Panama assumes the Presidency of the Community of Democracies (CoD), taking on a leadership role at a time of significant global challenges for democratic governance.
Panama’s Presidency coincides with the country’s preparations to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Congress of Panama of 1826, convened by Simón Bolívar. This historic gathering articulated a vision of unity, dialogue, and cooperation among nations, principles that continue to resonate in contemporary efforts to defend democracy and strengthen multilateral engagement.

As President of the Community of Democracies, Panama will focus on strengthening democratic resilience, promoting respect for human rights, and reinforcing cooperation among democracies across regions. Through its leadership, Panama seeks to advance collective action and dialogue in support of democratic values, drawing inspiration from the enduring legacy of the Congress of Panama.

The Community of Democracies looks forward to working closely with Panama during its Presidency to advance shared priorities and uphold the principles of the Warsaw Declaration.
