On September 10th, Secretary General Thomas E. Garrett welcomed Secretary General Luis Almagro and Advisor Monika LeRoy of the Organization of American States (OAS) at the Community’s Permanent Secretariat in Warsaw. During the meeting, they discussed challenges and opportunities for democracy in Latin America, the important role of international and regional organizations in promoting democracy, and potential synergies for joint future activities aimed at promoting and strengthening democratic governance.

In 2018, CoD and OAS signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation for the promotion and consolidation of democracy. In June 2019, SG Garrett participated as an observer in the 49th OAS General Assembly, held in Medellin, and Ms. Monika LeRoy represented SG Almagro at the 30^th meeting of the CoD Governing Council, where she provided a briefing on the current situation in Venezuela.
