On May 28^th, Secretary General Thomas E. Garrett made an official visit to Canada, Member State of the Community’s Governing Council. During his visit, Secretary General met with  the Honourable Omar Alghabra, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss challenges and opportunities for democracies. He also discussed the Community’s current work with Tara Denham of Canada’s Foreign Ministry Democracy Division and Director-General Shelley Whiting of the Office of Human Rights, Freedoms and Inclusion at the Global Affairs Canada.

Canada has long played an important role in the CoD and holds membership in the Community’s Governing Council.
