On May 24-26, 2021, SG Thomas E. Garrett traveled to Bucharest to meet with the CoD Presidency team to discuss the recently extended mandate of the Romanian Presidency as well as the upcoming X Ministerial Conference of the CoD, to be held in September 2021 at UNGA in New York. The agenda included meetings with Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, State Secretary Cornel Feruta, and representatives of the Legal Department and International Organizations Department at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As part of the visit, SG also met with representative of the CoD Civil Society Pillar as well as Romanian CoD Youth Lead- discussions also included current situation in Belarus and detention of Raman Pratasevich and Sofia Sapega.
