Two weeks ago, the world witnessed a violent assault on U.S. democracy.  The shock reverberated through the Community of Democracies, and all nations.  Today, the U.S. took a significant step forward on the path of democracy and the rule of law with the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Democracy does not only move from triumph to triumph but will always face challenges. It is through democratic solidarity that such challenges are met. The Community of Democracies congratulates the United States on today’s important milestone and looks forward to working with the new U.S. administration to defend, promote, and strengthen democracy worldwide.
