Statement by the Secretary General dr. Mantas Adomėnas on 1000 days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
Today we mark a tragic milestone of 1000 days of Russia’s unprovoked full-scale military invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s fight for its independence is the crucial and defining confrontation between the forces of liberty and tyranny of our age. Defending itself, Ukraine fights on behalf of democracy, human rights, and rules-based international order worldwide.
With ongoing shelling and destruction of Ukrainian cities and vital infrastructure, brutal repressions and war-related violence against civilians, including children, the devastating impact of Putin’s war of aggression is escalating and the evidence of violations of international human rights and international humanitarian law committed by Russian authorities is growing.
Since the beginning of the war, Members of the Community of Democracies Governing Council have reaffirmed their unwavering support to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, supporting Ukraine and the Ukrainian people through national and multilateral mechanisms.
With no end of Russia‘s devastating war of aggression in sight, the support of the free world to Ukraine remains critical – and needs to be stepped up, all the way until Ukraine emerges victorious.
