Governing Council of the Community of Democracies 

The Community of Democracies is comprised of the Governing Council Member States committed to shared democratic values enshrined in the Warsaw Declaration. The Governing Council provides a unique venue for countries that share democratic values to share knowledge and experiences on democracy and human rights-related issues, and advocate globally on issues of mutual concern. The diversity of the Governing Council, which includes countries from different world regions and at different stages in their democratic journey, provides the potential to draw on a wide pool of experiences and information sources to spur action and facilitate peer learning.

Presidency 

In 2025, the Presidency of the Community of Democracies is held by Poland. As a founding member of the Community of Democracies and the host country to its Permanent Secretariat, Poland has consistently played an important role within the CoD. Poland’s priorities for the CoD Presidency include: countering the negative impact of disinformation on human rights and democracy, reinforcing democratic values and building resilience, and supporting human rights defenders as guardians of democratic values.

 

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is composed of elected Governing Council Member States and provides strategic recommendations and opinions to the Governing Council to inform decisions on the activities of the Community of Democracies. As of September 15th, 2024, the Executive Committee Members for 2024-2026 are: Canada, Lithuania, Morocco, Panama, Poland, Republic of Korea and the United States.
