Statement by the Secretary General Thomas E. Garrett

“The vulnerability of democracy was painfully apparent on 6 January 2021. The violent scenes at the U.S. Capitol were all the more shocking as they followed positive examples of America’s democracy in the record participation and inclusiveness of the November 2020 and January 2021 Federal elections.

We see hope of democracy’s resilience in the quick return by the U.S. Congress to the rule of law and exercise of America’s democratic institutions. This is a critical step to respecting the will of the American people as expressed through free and fair elections.”- SG Thomas E. Garrett
